Sindy’s Birth Story
I was really terrified, and you dissolved it all for me.. and although I didn’t have the experience I set out to have, I would do it all again!
My beautiful girl, Summer, was born on 11th of July.
My goal to have a calm, natural water birth wasn’t her plan for me unfortunately, haha… my waters broke naturally, at 1am on the Wednesday morning, and surges started 2 hours later.. I spent the day at home in early labour, breathing through all the surges as they intensified. I went in and out of hospital a couple of times, as the surges were progressing, and then falling back when I got to the hospital. A water birth was no longer an option, as I was at risk for infection from my waters already breaking.. I was induced the next morning at 6am, and continued breathing through.. I remember being so confused, as the pain was unbearable, yet I hadn’t progressed.. At one stage I was at 7 centimetres, but after 40 hours of surges with no pain relief, I gave into the epidural..
After another 5 hours they found that my baby girl was actually facing posterior, and was getting pushed into my back instead my cervix. My cervix was closing up, and they said that if we keep trying, she’ll get stuck, so I was taken to theatre for an emergency c-section..
Although it wasn’t the experience I wanted, and had all the medical intervention you could get.. nothing will take away the joy I had the moment I met her, and knowing it was all worth it.
So after 45 hours labour and an emergency C-section, I still loved every minute, and your breathing techniques and visualisations got me through those 40 painful hours.
Thank you so much for illuminating my fear, and helping me tap into the strength I needed to be her mum.
I’d do it all again, and will still attempt a natural birth in the future 🫶
